 who departed this life the 4th. of Novr: 1758, aged 76

 (at the end of this line are fitted in three short lines of tiny wording,

 very difficult to read:  'he was the only son of

 Francis & Hannah before marriage called Hannah DOBLE’)

  to whose memory this is also dedicated  


 Likewise to the memory of Elizabeth Burridge, of Stoke Court, wife of the above

 Phillip (sic) Doble Burridge, who died December 7th. 1818, aetat: 62  Also  

 Philip Doble, of Stoke Court, second son of Philip Doble & Elizabeth  Burridge,  who departed this life August 5th. 1829, aged 51”.


CHURCH INTERIOR MONUMENTAL INSCRIPTIONS


In the north wall is an old board with painted lettering of c1800, listing monetary equivalents for payments of tithe in kind - no names given)


Stained glass north window. “In memory of Elizabeth Mary HARMAN  of Ruishton Lodge who died July 25th. 1898”.


Floor slab (mostly hidden under the stone pulpit, but inscription recorded in full by Collinson and Rack.


Words underlined are still visible. Collinson says a coat of arms was depicted, now hidden).

“Here lyeth the body of Mary, the wife of William DQBLE. gent: who died October 25, 1673, aged 41.


Also of William Doble, gent: who died May 9,1687, aged 63.


Also of Philip Doble, their son, who died July 14,1708, aged 54”


(a copy of this inscription, framed and glazed, at the back of the pulpit, adds the following information “beneath the pulpit lies the tomb of the Doble family, Lords of the Manors of Uphill and Christon, Somerset, and owners of Stoke House in this village”).


Two small brass plates on wooden font cover, generally dedicated to the memory of those killed in the two world wars, not specifically from this parish, but one of them adds: “...especially of William BURT of this parish, who was killed in France, on the 29th. of August 1918”.

6   Group of four coped stones within one kerb, which once had iron railings (recorded from north to south), on first:

“Sacred to the memory of Edward John Balcombe BROWN  in Her Majesty’s 69th. Regt: of Foot

son of the late Major Edward Brown and Susan his wife whose remains are interred in this vault

He fell asleep in Jesus on the 15th. Deer: 1847, in the 21st. year of his age”

 (PR: his burial entry does not give his rank, which is illegible on the stone).

12   Headstone. Jemima GAYWOOD, died 6 Aug 1894, aged 88. And her husband, Charles Gaywood, died 17 Sept 1894, aged 77.
