Harry  Walsh, grandson of Thomas Patton,  was in the SLI and was the first person to greet John Chard at Rorkes Drift during the Zulu War.

Tom Lock was the “last of the Taunton Pot Whallers”, he died in 1904

Charles Lance was the brother of the Rev Lance and a stalwart of the village

Colonel Patton’s famous mock battles around Stoke St Mary

Rev Shaw was the rector and sadly lost his daughter and son in law during the Indian Mutiny

Capt Farrant, fought at Waterloo, and settled in Stoke.  He too lost a son and daughter in law in India
